Academic movie mogul
Focus Features make thought provoking indie movies that often reach the mainstream. Headed by James Schamus, Focus has produced successful films such as ‘Brokeback Mountain’ and has managed the marriage between art and commerce in a truly remarkable way, unlike many of its competitors who have fallen by the wayside.
Schamus brings together talented actors and directors who might not ordinarily work together such as the Dutch photographer and music video auteur Anton Corbijn and actor George Clooney, to tell stories that are a little bit left of centre or in his own words “weird”. The New York Times takes up his story.
